Welcome to a very special blog hop called "Light it Up Blue for Autism"! April is Autism Awareness month. I have quite a few friends who have children with autism. I took a look at the Autism Speaks website and was stunned to find that 1 in every 68 kids has autism. 1 in 68! I found a convicting article about how having a child with autism affects both the parents and the other siblings in the family. Let me tell you, it really makes you think! Do we really recognize and appreciate what families go through when they have a child with special needs, be it autism or any other "thing" that we label "different"?
How can we as individuals, as friends, as family members, as neighbors be a light to those who may need an extra lift, a little extra understanding, some patience, some love? How can we light up THEIR lives? I guess that is what my challenge is to myself because of this blog hop. Can I be more conscientious to be a light to a mom who needs a break? To a child who needs a little extra care and understanding? Because by being a blessing, I am also blessed through them.
So my card today is dedicated to the families out there who face autism every day, every hour, every minute of every day.

Love. Always.
I used 2 sizes of the Lil' Inker Designs Stitched Mats: Dual Stitched Squares (LOVE!!) to cut out all three of my dual stitched square pieces. I watercolored with various blues onto the smallest square and then stamped with VersaFine ink the Pieces of Me puzzle piece which seemed to be the perfect fit for this blog hop as the puzzle piece is the symbol for autism. The sentiments are stamped from a set called All About Ampersand.
There are many fantastic sponsors that have shown their support for Autism Awareness and you can see the complete list here. If you would like a chance to win a prize from one of these fabulous companies leave a comment on this blog, and any of the other blogs participating in today's hop! Winners will be chosen at random and will be announced on Monday, April 6.
Thank you for joining me today and be sure to check out all of the other participants in today's hop here!

I can see that puzzle pieces stamp set used in a lot of great ways!
ReplyDeleteThank you from the deepest part of my being for sharing that awesome link about parenting a child on the autism spectrum. The tears just won't stop flowing. My Aspy daughter is 28 now and I so wish we had known things about coping and parenting her like the ones shared in that article years ago. Resources just weren't available back then. I also appreciated that it dealt with the siblings, too. The article described our younger son (who is the "older brother") to a tee. Thank you so much for sharing this important article and for participating in this helpful and healing hop.
