Little Lady Notebook

Hi again!!  If you visited my blog yesterday, you saw the table that I set up for our ladies' event.  I decorated my table in a ladybug theme and included a ladybug notebook as a favor for each guest at my table.   From the moment I first began planning my table, I knew that I wanted to give each guest a notebook, but I had never decorated one before, so I wasn't sure yet how the design would look.  I knew my color scheme...red, white & black and I knew that I would use the "Little Lady" stamp set from PTI and the black & white polka dotted paper from Hobby Lobby.  Beyond that I wasn't sure.

Enter the last PTI Blog Hop and Ingrid Danvers.  When I saw her card my jaw hit the floor!  Her card was so perfect for the notebook covers I needed to make!  So, I totally CASED her design!  You can see her beautiful card here.  Thank you Ingrid so much for your beautiful card and the inspiration it provided!

Here are my notepads completely inspired by her.

Since this was for a ladies event at church, I really wanted to include a scripture verse on the front of the notepad.  I love the scripture included in the PTI "Everyday Blessings" stamp set.

I was in a bit of a rush, so even though I have a sheet music stamp, I printed some public domain sheet music off of the Internet and then stamped the red flowers onto it and cut it up.  It was a bit of a time saver for me!

I sprayed each of the lady bug circle pieces with pearl glimmer mist to make it shine! Wow!! I love this stuff!! It was the first time I have used it and I can tell you that you will see it again!! LOVE the shine and shimmer it gave the ladybugs!

Something else I wanted to do but ran out of time was to make a little packaging for each of the notepads like my friend Amy did here.  I didn't have any of the little sacks that the notepads fit in though, so I custom made my own.  (I only made one though since I was out of time.)

I took an ordinary white lunch sack and sewed down one side with a zig zag stitch.  Then, I put my notebook inside of it and pushed it as close to the zig zag as it would go.  I used a ruler and pencil to mark where I would need to sew on the other side of the lunch sack and then took the notepad out.  I then sewed the zig zag stitch on the line that I had marked.  When I was finished sewing, I erased the pencil line and used my paper trimmer to trim as close to the zig zags as I could to cut off the excess sack that wasn't needed.  I then took a circle punch and punched out a half circle at the top of the sack so that it was easier to take the notepad in and out of the sack.  This was a really quick process and just like that I have a custom-made bag to fit my notebooks for almost nothing!! :)

The only thing I decorated the sack with was this little band.  I cut a strip of paper to 2 x 11 and then ran the middle part through my Big Shot with the music sheet impression plate.  Then, I stamped the entire strip with VersaMark using Polka Dot Basics.  I then scored the lines and folded it around the sack, wrapped the twine from The Twinery around the band and adhered my ladybug circle piece.  Quick and easy but I love how it dresses it up just enough!

Thanks for visiting today!  Tomorrow I will have another notebook project to share (hopefully).  I hope you all stay warm and safe!! It is cold and snowy/icy and blizzardy here in Kansas!!  I am not sure how low it got, but I've heard -20 wind chill. YUCK!! Spring please come quickly, lol!!

A Ladybug Dot-to-Dot Delight

The Ladybug wears no disguises.
She is just what she advertises.
A speckled spectacle of spring,
A fashion statement on the wing....
A miniature orange (red) kite.
A tiny dot-to-dot delight.
~J. Patrick Lewis, "The Little Buggers"

Our Ladies' Ministry group at church sponsored an event at church on Sunday and we asked ladies from the church to decorate the tables.  This is always such a fun event to see how everyone decorates the tables differently!  I love to do this and knew right away what I wanted my theme to be...ladybugs!  I had the idea in my head and then went shopping for supplies.  Originally my color scheme was going to be pink, red & light green, but then I found these mints and I based my whole table around these colors instead:

I found these at a party store and immediately went to the paper section to pick out the tablecloth, the plates, napkins, etc.  Everything matched perfectly!  And, of course you know how much I LOVE polka dots, and I knew that Hobby Lobby had just the perfect paper for place mats!

In the plan in my head, I wanted to find the small glass milk bottles to use as glasses but I was unsuccessful at finding any at a decent price, so I instead bought jam canning jars from Walmart and I love the way they looked!  I bought some red & white striped paper straws for each glass too (from an internet store)...FUN!!

Here is what each individual place setting looked like.  And, as you can see, I also made each guest a little notebook as a favor.  I will tell you more about those tomorrow (the design was  inspired by another PTI fan!!).

Here you can see the centerpiece.  I took a red pail and put grass and different "flowers" in it.  I took black & white polka dotted saddle stitch ribbon and gathered it at the top of the pail and then hot glued some glittery lady bugs to it.  It's hard to see in the picture, but the pail is sitting on a large felt butterfly with red polka dots on the wings!

I did find several milk bottles (just not enough for each lady) so I decided to incorporate those into the table decorations too.  I filled each of them with green Styrofoam balls and then placed some grass and berries inside to keep with the theme of the centerpiece.  I then used some of my twine from The Twinery and a yo-yo on the front of each bottle.  So fun!

Probably my favorite decoration on the table were these cute grass clumps!  I found these on clearance at Alco for...$1.16!! They were regularly $8!  The clumps of grass are in a brown container that is a little chipped and I wanted to hide that part.  I bought this awesome red burlap at Hobby Lobby, wrapped it around the container and then used a rubber band to hold it in place.  I cut some polka dotted fabric in strips and wrapped it around the burlap and tied a bow.  I just loved how these turned out!   I made the little ladybugs (from PTI's Little Lady stamp set) on the lacey circles and attached them to a stick to set inside the grass clumps too.

Here's another view of the table.  I had SO MUCH FUN putting all these decorations together!

Thank you so much for letting me share this with you!  I'll be back, hopefully tomorrow, to share more about the little notebooks!  Have a great day!
